The Hotel Cordorus located in York, PA has a history dating back to the 1820’s. It is a building that has Landmark status, which posed a unique problem for the architectural firm of Murphy and Dittenhafer. The firm worked with Maine Glass, while following the standards of the Department of the Interior for the National Register of Historic Places.
Windows are one of the greatest challenges in a successful restoration project. Historic rehab projects pose unique obstacles that involve trying to retain the historic appearance of the windows while optimizing their performance. Maine Glass with their Interior Insulating Windows has been very successful at overcoming these issues all while utilizing existing historic windows. Using a unique and patented product line, Maine Glass installs an interior window on the inside of the existing window. The Maine Glass window is designed with a slim profile allowing the window to disappear and the original architecture to be enjoyed. The result is a window system that performs and insulates as well or better than new replacement windows—all without changing the existing site lines of the historic windows and at a fraction of the cost. Each of these projects are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
